Change and the Collective Mind

When you are on your spiritual journey one of the things you realize is that you have to redefine yourself. In order to pursue your spirit Self, you have to believe you have one, and so it becomes necessary to redefine what it is to be human. After you have decided to set sail and live free, a day comes when a strange wind appears and thunders against the sails of your vessel. Pushing you back away from the vast ocean its intentions are to reign you back towards the shores from which you have just escaped. This resistance is from the captives who, refusing to pursue their own freedom intend to claim you for themselves.

This restriction, unlike the ones you may encounter while you are redefining yourself is not internal to your own experience. In other words, even after you decide to claim your own spiritual inheritance you may sense another kind of restriction. What is this, you wonder as you push against it with all your might? This resistance comes from the 'collective mind' of mankind. It is as though the whole of humanity agrees to a certain set of rules and when one of you breaks free, the collective becomes uncomfortable and begins to assert itself onto your consciousness in the form of opposition. You are all part of this collective on an unconscious level, thus you are unaware of it. You contribute to it by way of your thoughts and uniqueness and you receive the contributions of others in the same respect. When you begin to wake up, it's as though the collective senses a weakness in its matrix and automatically sends an invisible net of psychic energy that goes out in an attempt to draw you back. This energy that attempts to wheel you back into its fold occurs to prevent too many of you from breaking away. For if too many minds are freed, the collective has to incorporate into its data base the idea of existing without borders and of living undefined. More and more individuals would catch onto this revolutionary idea and mankind would have to either find new definitions or accept that in reality, you transcend definitions.

It is because you are connected on an unconscious level to each other that you are able to share each others' realities. There is a collective consciousness that you all contribute to and on some unseen level like a spider web, it connects every mind to the other. The Global Consciousness Project conducted at Princeton University is an international, multidisciplinary collaboration of scientists and engineers... "We collect data continuously from a global network of physical random number generators located in 70 host sites around the world. ...when a great event synchronizes the feelings of millions of people, our network of RNGs becomes subtly structured .... Large scale group consciousness has effects in the physical world. Knowing this, we can intentionally work toward a brighter, more conscious future." In other words, your minds are connected to each other, and when there are events in the world your response as well as millions of other people's responses can be measured. So the feelings that you experience do not stop at the border of your s skin, but radiate outward into your personal space, your home, your work place, your community and the world at large.

Another example of how your consciousness is shared and connected by all comes from Lyall Watson who was a scientist and author of a book called Lifetide. He chronicles his experiences with observing monkey's who were fed sweet potatoes and began washing them in the sea before eating them. Many other monkeys began imitating this behavior, but once a level called "critical mass" was reached, and in this case it was 100 monkeys, overnight every monkey on the island then learned the new skill. The theory that Lyall Watson developed from this was that not only are all living things connected, but that when enough of one species begins to think or act in a new way, the entire species is effected and thus evolves.

Whatever the true nature of our connectedness is, breaking away from the collective and forging a new path for yourselves can be challenging but establishing a connection with your spiritual Self is epic. It is the most important journey that you will ever embark upon and there isn't a pleasure in this world that matters if you haven't the pleasure of your true Self. The collective may attempt to persuade you to give up the voyage within and the resistance is meant to cause you fear, but this is the challenge for any who pursues the unknown.
